Science and Faith

I’ll construe “science” as the set of tools we use to find truth about the universe, with the understanding that these truths are provisional rather than absolute. These tools include observing nature, framing and testing hypotheses, trying your hardest to prove that your hypothesis is wrong to test your confidence that it’s right, doing experiments and above all replicating your and others’ results to increase confidence in your inference.

Daniel Dennett says religion consists of “systems whose participants avow belief in a God whose approval is to be sought.”

Carravagio’s picture of doubting Thomas brings the two together. The sceptic Thomas tests the claims of Jesus to see if these hold up.

The scientific evidence strongly suggests that the creation of our universe and an earth that can be inhabited by humans is impossible without there being a creator. There are too many constants that had to be set precisely if our world was to form Are you thrilled that the mass of an electron is exactly the mass of a neutron is 1,839 times that of an electron! That we have a large moon circulating around our earth. It stops earth from wobbling as it orbits the sun, It raises the level of the world's oceans towards the equator. Without this gravity, the oceans would redistribute, raising levels at the poles. It is the main source of our tides that keep the oceans circulating and habitable. Some animals navigate by the moon.
